Obiano  earmarks N700m for retired Journalists

Anambra State governor, Chief Willie Obiano has announced the sum of N700m as benefit for retirees from the state media organisations, National Light Newspaper and Anambra Broadcasting Service(ABS).

The governor made the disclosure through the commissioner for information, Ogbuefi Tony Nnacheta in a press briefing yesterday.


He said that 385 retirees of the two parastatals will benefit.

Nnacheta said the payment was coming after 38 years of wait by the retirees, which consisted of several journalists from the two media organisations.

He said the payment will begin at the end of June 2017 and will last until May 2018.


Nnacheta, said that the people involved had been gasping for breath over the years, adding that the money had been provided to extinguish their sufferings in the state.

The state government also announced that it was currently handling 181 projects in the state, adding that 175 of the total would be ready for use at the end of June.

Also, there were 12 ongoing road projects in the state despite the economic recession according to the state government.

He said despite distractions from certain quarters and opposition, the state government led by Chief Obiano had not derailed in its duties in making sure that the people of Anambra were adequately taken care of.
