New Chelsea signing Antonio Rudiger has revealed that Antonio Conte was the most significant factor behind his move to Stamford Bridge.
German international Rudiger joined Chelsea last week in a deal worth up to £34.2million, with the former Roma defender becoming the first major signing of the summer.
Rudiger has since been joined by Tiemoue Bakayoko as manager Conte plots an overhaul of his title-winning squad ahead of their return to the Champions League.
And the lure of the Italian manager, who has won the league in each of his last four seasons at Juventus and Chelsea, was what convinced Rudiger to make the move to the Premier League.
“We speak about Rome and Chelsea and Chelsea’s a big club,” Rudiger said. “Roma’s a big club too in Italy but it’s a different level.
“For me the most [important] reason was the coach, Antonio Conte. He’s a fantastic coach because he improved a lot of players. Last season [Marcos] Alonso and [Victor] Moses played great.”
